About SoCal Powerlifting

Zack, the founder of SoCal Powerlifting, did his first powerlifting competition in 2014. The thrill of the competition, the training for it, and hitting new PRs had him hooked. After the competition he looked for gyms around him. Zack lived in Irvine, where there was a severe lack of powerlifting specific gyms. The only powerlifting gyms were far away in inconvenient locations, dirty, and lacked diversity.

Fast forward to 2017, Zack saved up enough money from odd jobs to open up the first rendition of SoCal Powerlifting. He sub-leased a small warehouse from another gym, bought a few pieces of equipment, and launched. While his gym was clean, well kept, and very welcoming, it was still missing something.

He was primarily doing online coaching at the time, with a few in-person sessions, and had a crucial realization. For most, personal training lacked affordability, while online training lacked the support needed for those looking to get into the sport of powerlifting. He then formed what we know now as SoCal Powerlifting, with coaching being the value that SCPL brings to the world. With a hybrid approach of online and in person training at SCPL, you get a custom built program from your coach, monthly 1-on-1 sessions in the gym with your coach working through your hardest lifts, and 24/7 gym access to our state-of-the-art powerlifting facility.

SoCal Powerlifting has now has served thousands of lifters, focusing on those getting more into powerlifting. For beginner powerlifters, the sport can be daunting and intimidating. At SCPL, we serve guidance in the gym and on the platform. In the gym, we help lifters get comfortable with the squat, bench, and deadlift, while working on accessory movements as well to support their individual goals and weak points. On the platform, we guide lifters through their meets to ensure a successful meet day.
